Rupert believes that there is always a good story behind each travel photograph and through his website he hopes to expose to people interested in his pictures,  those adventures and experiences.

After working in the wine industry for more than 20 years, Rupert Dean made decision to take a career break in 2013.  As an experienced independent traveller and photography enthusiast, he decided to use the opportunity to embark on a two-year expedition to photograph some of the world’s most rare wildlife and tribal culture.

Rupert comments: “Travelling independently on a tight budget enabled me to experience local culture first hand, making 30+ hour bus journeys, camping or staying with local families and eating the traditional local food.  This also meant I could spend more days exploring national parks and remote tribal areas taking photographs.”

Some of Rupert’s travel highlights included free swimming with penguins and White Tip sharks in Galapagos, walking with wild jungle elephants in North East India, watching African Fish Eagles fish in Namibia, trekking to find six out of the 98 Silky Sifaka Lemurs in Madagascar, being charged by a hippopotamus in Botswana and seeing young male tigers clash in Rajasthan, India. However he is quick to admit that many of these experiences took days to witness and that many excursions were decidedly unsuccessful. During these two years he also stayed with different tribal communities including the Ido Mishmi, Apa Tani and Monpa tribes in Arunachal Pradesh in India, the Hamer tribe in Ethiopia, The San people in Namibia and the Nagas in Nagaland, India.

This website presents a culmination of a life time of travel, exploring remote landscapes, indigenous cultures and wildlife.  The photos here are what rupert considers his most special pictures and ones which hold a special place in those many experiences he has witnessed.  He aims to add to this collection as he sorts out his photographic library.
