Elephants joyously arriving at a waterhole, Etosha National Park, Namibia 2014

October 20, 2015

Etosha National Park is a glorious African National Park and is a nice contrast to Okavango.  Its very dry and famous for its ubiquitous white dust which finds its way into everything.  In the local language Oshindonga, Etosha means “Great White Place”.  With broken air conditioning this was a challenge for me driving with the windows down, but for the animals it was far worse.  But in terms of animal spotting Etosha offers great opportunities.  All I did was take a flask of coffee and wait by a watering hole.  Sure enough a huge pride of elephants (thirty plus) soon came charging out of the bush with the youngsters in the front, followed by their mothers.  The expressions of joy and their playful nature when they arrived at the waterhole was a joy to behold.
