I was lucky enough to be present when these two male cubs, their sister and their mother emerged early in the morning from the reeds beside a large lake after feasting all night on a kill. The cubs, really adolescents, where in a playful mood and this photo was taken when one was goading the other before they engaged in some ferocious looking playing. The mother and sister just sat next to the lake and watched. I saw these four play, relax and drink for the next three hours before the boys discovered a porcupine hiding in the reeds. The startled animal bolted out of the reeds followed by the three cubs. Later on the mother also ambled out of the long grass and followed her offspring up the hill and away from the lake, looking decidedly unimpressed.
