Fishing South American Pelican, Galapagos, Ecuador 2014

October 20, 2015

On my last day in the Galapagos I trekked the eight kilometres on Santa Cruz Island to the secluded Tortuga Bay.  This is a popular beach for the many residents of Santa Cruz and on the weekends it is very busy.  It was slightly surreal watching all these people acting as if they were on a beach in the Costa Brava surrounded by spectacular birdlife and the occasional Green Sea Turtle raising its head off shore.  The Pelicans were particularly active and I ended up photographing this young female who was honing her hunting skills in the shallows.  Not always successful, she was during this particular shot.
