The Rufus Crested Coquette is a rare, beautiful species of hummingbird which is spread over the North Western parts of South America and the southern part of Central America. They are about 8cm in length and are both faster and more agile than many other species I encountered. Consequently this species is very difficult to photograph. The males have this beautiful orange crest which can be raised in the same way a Hoopoe does. They eat most spiders and insects and can catch up to 2,000 of these per day. It took me two days of patience plus a large dose of exasperation to finally snap this picture.
